Job Description

  • Manages the financial closings on a monthly basis, ensuring required journal entries are made; produces financial statements and other necessary information ensuring accuracy, and in a timely manner.
  • Develops, prepares and controls the annual budget.
  • Takes responsibility for all accounting transactions including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger; including a timely reconciliation of all G/L accounts.
  • Manages cash flow and works with President and CEO to ensure cash requirements of the organization are met.
  • Maintains stringent internal controls.
  • Manages contract coordination for government programs to ensure compliance with requirements and timely payment requests. Provides financial budgeting and reports for all public and private funders.
  • Directs the acquisition, installation, and maintenance of hardware and software to support agency efficiency.
  • Formulates financial policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure efficiency of operation.
  • Works closely with the President and CEO on agency financial planning and development.
  • Provides leadership to program managers on financial and administrative matters.
  • Maintains agency contracts for goods and services, working interactively with department heads to monitor for performance.
  • Maintains all records for planned and estate gifts, working with the Development Committee and staff on Gift Acceptance matters.
  • Provides staff support to the Finance Committee and its Chair, attending their monthly meetings and providing the financial report at Board meetings as needed.
  • Manages staff for accounting and information technology functions.
  • Ensures compliance with the agency's document retention policy.
  • Performs other functions as directed by the President and CEO.
  • Solicits bids for audit and other financial services.
  • Meets with Board of Directors as required monthly
  • Develops policies and procedures for the accounting department.
  • Defines financial procedures and reporting for special events to ensure proper safeguard of agency assets.
  • Plans and prepares for external audits and monitoring visits.

Requirements and Qualifications                               

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting
  • Requires previous experience in social services
  • MBA or CPA preferred
  • 3+ years working in Accounting Management or in a Supervisory capacity
  • Experience working in a nonprofit organization strongly preferred
  • MS Office proficient- Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Effectively communicates using proper grammar and punctuation written, oral, non-verbal, and active listening skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including use of proper grammar and punctuation 
  • Technology adept including Browser and Computer savvy and the use of various office equipment  
  • Presents in a polite, polished, and professional manner upon dealing with customers and co-workers
