Sales is a tough job. Making prospect calls…and lots of them to generate interest in your product or service is key to developing a pipeline. Successful sales professionals know and understand the importance of reaching out, turning over stones and planting seeds with potential prospects all the time. If this is a key to sales success, why is it very few sales professionals use this important tactic when searching for a job?
At Hiregy, we often recruit sales professionals for our clients and for our own team. In fact, as I write this, we have several openings for an outside sales professional. So far, we’ve had almost 500 candidates apply for the position via email or through our website. Out of 500 potential candidates only one (yes I said one) has actually picked up the phone and called about the job. Guess what? That person was interviewed immediately.
If you are looking for a sales opportunity and you are a true, successful sales professional, then give up emailing resumes and start making calls. Use your sales skills! You’ll rise above your competition quickly and immediately demonstrate your understanding of what it takes to be a successful sales professional to potential employers.
By the way, if any potential employer searching for a sales professional gets annoyed or angry by your phone call, then , in my opinion, they are not truly searching for a sales professional of your caliber. Move on!
